Research activity
My research area is in human-centered artificial intelligence. My main goal is to create intelligent systems that can better support effective human-computer interaction by integrating traditional HCI approaches with innovative AI techniques that enable advanced forms of interaction. To this end, I have focused on designing intelligent user-adaptive systems that can: (i) Recognize the specific needs, affect and abilities of their users (a task called user modeling); (ii) Provide users with a personalized interaction experience by adapting in real-time to the detected user’s needs and abilities. I have studied the benefits of such user adaptation for a variety of systems, including intelligent educational environments, pedagogical virtual agents, visualizations, decision support systems, and citizen engagement platforms.Mon domaine de recherche est l'intelligence artificielle centrée humain. Ma recherche porte plus spécifiquement sur les systèmes intelligents qui utilisent l'intelligence artificielle pour proposer une interaction plus personnalisée à leurs utilisateurs. Pour ce faire, je crée et évalue des systèmes dit adaptatifs, qui sont capables (i) de prédire les besoins et états de leurs utilisateurs via l'analyse de leurs données d'interaction (modélisation d'utilisateur) ; (ii) de personnaliser l'interaction en temps réel pour mieux répondre à ces besoins et états. J'ai montré la faisabilité et l'intérêt de tels systèmes adaptatifs dans une variété de domaines d'application, dont les environnements informatiques pour l'apprentissage humain (EIAH), les agents pédagogiques virtuels, les visualisation de données, les outils d'aide à la décision et les plateformes pour l'engagement citoyen.
