Titre / Title: Simulations graphiques pour l'enseignement du parallélisme
Abstract : This thesis presents some graphical animations and simulations designed and realized to help students to understand parallelism. The first chapter describes related works in different fields: program and algorithm animation, parallel debugging and performance analysis and simulation. The second chapter is a presentation of the two projects FORCE and COLOS inside which the work has been done and a description of the tools used. The third chapter describes two animations that visualize the concepts of rendezvous and semaphore. In the last chapters, simulations to visualize parallel algorithms on different kinds of architecture are presented: first, simulations of parallel machines (a global memory multiprocessor and a network of processors) written in Smalltalk/V; then, a visualization system of distributed algorithms on a ring network and a simulation of a global memory multiprocessor, both realized using X Window and Motif. An example of how each of these simulations can be used is also presented.
