Titre / Title: Techniques de synchronisation pour les communications dans les systèmes haut-débit multimédia
Abstract : Multimedia communication systems handle, in an integrated manner, different information types. The integration of media with various characteristics implies specific needs that the system must take into account. One of the main problems in multimedia domain is related to the temporal dimension contained in applications and media manipulation. The synchronization in multimedia context refers to the task of coordination, scheduling and presentation of multimedia objects in time and space. We identify three types of synchronization: the intra-flow synchronization, refering to the presentation of a single medium ; the inter-flow synchronization, refering to presentation of multiple media which converge to a single receiver ; and the multi-destinations synchronization, refering to the coordination of multiple media on distributed receivers. At communication level, the various aspects of multimedia synchronization are considered on a time-based approach. The functions of intra-flow temporal signature control, associated with inter-flow temporal compensation ones, ensure the conveying of information, in respect to the application needs. The various techniques are integrated into an architecture, adapted to the high speed communication characteristics and are tested using a simulation and implementation approach.
