Titre / Title: Modelling interface and knowledge in software packages aimed to know about their individual users : a critical view point
Abstract : Knowledge representation has been the main spend time effort of several applications and new technologies came out of research laboratories. Among the main software packages using knowledge representation techniques, expert systems for daily professional technique applications have known an important and practical success. However, a lot of expert systems remain at a prototype stage and do not even came out of university laboratories. The expert systems where the application subject requires the system to make sure that the machine responds appropriately to the user's actions form maybe the best example of unachieved prototypes. To respond adequately to user's actions the system must be able to know the user by analysing his actions. This analysis involves diagnosis activities and must generally be bound to a powerful help platform in order to assist the individual users.
The aim of this paper is to analyse the use of some knowledge representation techniques used by software packages aimed to know about their users. We pay a special attention to the need of diagnosis process and contextual help developments in this kind of system . We present briefly a software package conceived and implemented by us aimed to know about their individual users and that uses contextual and intelligent diagnosis processes.
