Titre / Title: Les Langages de Manipulation dans les Systèmes d'Information Géographiques
Abstract : The research field counts numerous Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Each GIS has got its data model, its query language, which both allow to resolve some specific applications. This report presents six query languages, which are Vega, AED, GéoSabrina, Gral, QBD* and Cigales. More precisely, we focus on the expressive powers generated by these languages. Since there is, currently, no standard concerning query languages for GIS, we propose a toy database and a set of queries, classified empirically, involving geographic data and operators. This database and these queries form the basis of our valuation. The comparison of these six languages induces a distinction according to the kind of geographic data modelling. This modelling can be done using coordinates and/or graphs. We conclude this report by showing that a GIS should provide both of these modellings.
