Titre / Title: What does 'Itself' Mean?
Abstract : Reflectivity implies that a system applies to itself, but many meanings are possible for the word 'itself ' It is important to define them accurately, because each of these meanings leads to a different kind of reflectivity. If one rightly implements reflectivity, one can limit the consequences of the difficulties arising while a system bootstraps: metabugs and deadlocks. We shall describe the seven possible forms of a piece of knowledge in MACISTE; we shall also indicate that it is useful to have several versions for a piece of knowledge. We shall show how this is used to restrict some unwanted consequences of reflectivity.
