Résumé : Ce papier propose une approche pour combler le fossé entre la théorie et la pratique dans la génération d'explication par un système. Une raison de ce l'existence de ce fossé vient du fait qu'un problème est souvent résolu grâce à une coopération entre l'utilisateur et le système, et les deux agents qui coopèrent ont besoin d'explications. La génération d'explications dépend essentiellement du contextedans lequel l'utilisateur et le système interagissent, et doit elle-même être considérée comme un processus coopératif. De telles explications contextualisées sont le résultat d'un processus, et constituent un medium pour la communication entre l'utilisateur et l système lors d'une résolution de problème. Nous nous concentrons dans ce papier sur la nécessité de rendre explicite la notion de contexte dans le processus coopératif d'explication. Nous analysons les notions d'explication et de contexte en termes de "chunks" de connaissances. Nous montrons alors ce que l'explicitation du contexte apporte aux explications. Nous introduisons le problème que nous traitons sur la base d'un exemple tiré d'une application industrielle.

Abstract : The aim of the paper is to fill in the gap between theory and practice in the generation of explanations by a system. One reason of this gap arises from the fact that a problem is often solved thanks to a cooperation between the user and the system, and both participants in the cooperation need explanations. Explanations essentially depend on the context in which the user and the system interact and must be considered as a cooperative process by itself. Such contextualized explanations are the result of a process and constitute a medium of communication between the user and the system during the problem solving. We focus on the need to make the notion of context explicit in the cooperative process of explaining. We analyze explanation and context in term of chunks of knowledge. Then we point out what the contribution of the context to explanation is. An example, which is drawn from a real application, introduces what the problem is.
